How does Invisible Bracelet (iB) help me?
Like a virtual medical ID bracelet, iB is an online service that allows its members to share vital health information during emergencies with local Emergency Medical Service (EMS) providers. iB increases the ability of paramedics to provide proactive care and improves coordination of care for patients transported by ambulance. iB also allows its members to pre-designate their “In Case of Emergency” or “ICE” contacts that can be immediately notified via text message or email when transport is provided.
How does "ICE" messaging work?
ICE stands for In Case of Emergency contact. Medics who are trained on the Invisible Bracelet system can alert up to ten of an iB member's ICE contacts with the push of a button. If you have been selected as an iB member's In Case of Emergency contact, you will receive an emergency notification instantly, either by text, phone or email message if your friend or family member is transported by ambulance.
TEXT: If you received an emergency text notification message requesting you to be an ICE contact, please text the number "1" to accept ICE confirmation. If you wish to decline, reply with the four digit code located in the text message you received from 51020.
EMAIL: If you received an email requesting you to be an ICE contact, please click the "Accept" link. If you wish to decline, click the "Decline" link.
If you need further assistance with ICE contact confirmation, text "HELP." If you would no longer like to be a registered ICE contact for anyone in the Invisible Bracelet system, text "STOP" to deactivate medical alert texts.
For example, an ICE notification lets people know when and where the iB member was transported: “John Doe has been transported by ambulance to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma by EMSA at 10:35 p.m., on April 2nd, 2009.”
What does the service cost?
Customers pay $10 to join the registry and $10 to annually renew their membership.
Who is authorized to access my emergency health information?
Members can select a Public Profile option, allowing any first responder (e.g., a good samaritan) to access the information that you've made available. In case of emergency, anyone with access to the member's iB identifier will be able to text the 8-digit iB PIN to 51020 and receive an instant emergency response text back (e.g., "John Doe. Diabetes Type 1. Medications: Insulin, Plavix. Allergies: Latex. ICE: Jane Doe 918 - 592 - 3722").
If you reside in an area where the Enhanced Medic Network is available, registered iB members grant temporary, read-only access to emergency responders that are licensed iB Medic Users and registered with the Health Department in their state. Why do I have to "opt out" of Auto Renewal?
For your safety and protection, iB automatically renews your membership every 12 months. All iB members will receive an Auto Renewal notice 30 days before their annual account is renewed and can opt out at any time.
Is iB covered by my insurance?
No. The iB Web service is so inexpensive that it can be purchased using a debit card or credit card. Best of all, people with or without health insurance can purchase their own iB account and establish accounts for their legal dependents.
Where can I get an iB Membership Card?
Simply visit our store, purchase your card and iB will have it delivered within 3-5 business days (unless you are given an iB membership card by a Group Discount Program account coordinator).
I live in a rural area. When will iB come to my community?
iB is committed to working with all emergency responders throughout the US. Every organization included in the American Ambulance Association is eligible for a free iB Medic license as well as the free online medic training and support program.
Should I register if I don't live in one of the covered areas?
Absolutely. Our Public Profile option allows for more people to be reached in more places. Also, if you travel frequently to or through one of our enhanced medic coverage areas, you should have an iB membership. As our service begins to expand across the country, we will let you know if and when your local EMS provider is planning to support iB in your community.
Can I register extended family members under my account?
Once you’ve registered yourself in the iB registry, you can easily add your dependents to your iB account. You must be the legal representative of a dependent in order to add them to your iB account.
Dependents that have been added to your iB account are not transferrable. If a dependent who is 18-years-old or older decides to establish their own iB account, they will have to register as a new iB account member and request their parent/guardian remove them as a dependent on their primary account.
My iB membership card is lost, stolen or no longer available. Do I need a new card or can I keep using one of my other iB identifiers?
Yes, you need a new card. You should keep your member card behind your license at all times. To replace your card, simply sign into your iB account at invisibleBracelet.org and select “Request a New iB Card” option.
Can I add or remove legal dependents from my account?
Yes. Adding a legal dependent is easy once a primary account has been established. Simply select the “Add a Dependent” link under the primary account holder’s account name.
Is iB an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system?
No. iB is an Emergency Health Registry Web service that can be utilized by licensed iB Medics and emergency responders, regardless of whether or not they current utilize an EMR system.
I don't have a debit card or credit card. Can I register by phone?
Not currently. In order to keep the cost of our service inexpensive, we are
only offering online registration using a debit card or credit card.
